In 2016 I got the best news ever. After trying for a long time I've been picked as #motulsuperfan for the race in Brno.
I can tell you it was a dream coming true. Before this weekend I have been on the paddock before, but only short visits when I was invited as VIP in Assen, or with the Two Wheels for Live paddock days.
The thursday is media day, and sometimes you can see the mechanics work from really close. First they clean all the parts of the bike to make sure not even a small particle of dust is in the
parts. It is really nice to see them work so hard. Many times you see things you will never see on tv and see how everything works in a team. are
The riders are also so relaxed at the thursday, and if the weather is nice you will see many in the paddock.
During the friday of the MSF experience you can do whatever you want in the paddock or go to the grandstands to watch the track action from there. In the paddock in Brno there were not many
viewing spots, so we decided to go to the grandstand to watch track action.
Saturday was an excited day. I had a safetycar ride! I got one lap, and it was one of the most amazing laps of my life. Words can't explain my feeling back then. The speed is amazing, and when
the car accelerates you get pushed so hard in the seat.
I also got a service road tour on saturday. When you are at the grandstands you already think you are close to the riders? The service road is the most close you can ever get to the circuit and
the riders on the circuit. It is the same place as the photographers are and you can shoot amazing pictures from the service road.
Then raceday came. I could watch WUP from the garage from one of the teams Motul sponsors. I could watch it from Suzuki with the riders Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales.
Seeing all the action from the garage was unreal. Usually you see all the action on television, but it looks so different when you are in the garage. You see everyone working and you also hear
the riders talk about things they are not happy, or happy about. At this time it was raining, so I was happy to have a roof over my head.
In the garage you can see all the timing screens, but also times in sectors, the lay out of the circuit and where every rider is on the circuit, so all the info you need to follow them. Since
this experience I use the timingscreens in the MotoGP app so I can follow my favourite riders on the track.
After this I had to wait for the best moment of the weekend. The MotoGP grid. I could be on the grid before the riders went out for their sighting lap. Then we waited for all the riders came on
the grid. When they all were in their grid slots I could walk around them. On television it always looks crowdy on the grid, but when you are there it even looks more crowdy.
The best moment of the weekend was seeing Tito on the grid. In my wildest dreams I could never imagine to be there, that close, see them in their full concentration before the start. It is so
surreal to be there, and when you are at home, on your sofa, waiting for the race to start the time on the grid always looks like forever. But when you are finally on the grid the time is over so
fast.
I was also able to see the start of the race from the pitwall. The sound is so loud and you can feel the vibrations in your whole body.
The race was a verry wet one with a new winner, Cal Crutchlow won his first GP race and was the first British rider to win since Barry Sheene in 1981.
Tito was 10th, a great result from a more than great rider!
